The Visual Adventures of Robert Williams is a showcase of prints, skateboards, a custom-painted hot rod, and an original oil painting by the master himself, Robert Williams. Godfather of Lowbrow art and founder of Juxtapoz magazine, Robert Williams is one of the most influential and impactful living artists of our time. This exhibition presents various artworks throughout Williams’ career, and includes a group show of artists who’ve been influenced by his work. Robert Williams has been on the fringe of the art world for more than fifty years, challenging the narrative of what is considered art. The Visual Adventures of Robert Williams is a comprehensive exploration of his contribution to art and culture.

About the Lowbrow Movement Lowbrow, or lowbrow art, is an underground visual art movement that arose in the Los Angeles, California area in the late 1960s. This art movement found its most congealing participant in one of America’s most opprobrious and maligned underground artists, the painter, Robert Williams. It was this artist who brought the term “lowbrow” into the fine arts lexicon, with his groundbreaking 1979 book, The Lowbrow Art of Robt. Williams. It was from this point that the seminal elements of West Coast Outlaw culture slowly started to aggregate.
