The Beatles innocently sang it, and Banksy gave us a spray-painted canvas of the same name. From Rodin’s passionate The Kiss, to Robert Indiana’s stacked letter sculpture, Love, to Shigetaka Kurita’s ubiquitous heart emoji, the depiction of love has been an essential impetus in art making throughout history.
Love makes the world go ‘round and inspires artists to keep making art. Open your mind and heart to your muse and let the energy flow unrestrained. Taylor Swift wrote “It’s a love story, baby, just say yes.” We can never get enough love. With digital effects, or old master techniques, and in every imaginable medium, show us some love in all its forms: platonic, erotic, familiar, agape. Since time immemorial, love is our deeply experienced common bond. Show us your inner Aphrodite. Because “What the world needs now is love, sweet love.”
